Archery Shooters Association Pro/Am Tour's First Stop
Gainesville, FL, January 24, 2007 - The Archery Shooters Association (ASA) is starting this year's McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour in Gainesville on Friday, February 2nd thru Sunday, February 4th. The event will take place at the Gainesville Raceway Road Course. More than 1,000 amateur and professional archers from across the United States will compete for cash awards, trophies, and accumulate points toward the impressive "Shooter of the Year" award in their class. Another 900 family members are also expected to attend. This is the 13th year the ASA and Gainesville Sports Commission, formerly the Gainesville Sports Organizing Committee, has teamed up to bring this event into the city of Gainesville.
The ASA Pro/Am Tour is a national series of six Pro/Am tournaments, plus the Championship "Classic". This tour is recognized as the best run, highest paying, and most exciting events in 3-D archery. The ASA 3-D archery includes competitive rounds of 20 lifelike, three-dimensional, animal targets made of foam. The competitors must aim at the scoring rings located on the foam targets. To earn points an archer must determine the distance to the target, pick a good aiming point, and execute the shoot.
The ASA uses a scoring system of 14,12,10,8,5 or 0 points per arrow. Scoring is based on zero points for a miss, five points are earned for a hit anywhere in the body, eight points for the largest scoring ring in the foam animal, tens points for the 4 -5 inch center circle inside the 8-ring, and twelve points for the smaller ring offset to the bottom or top of the 10-ring. Another circle housed in the upper rear of the 8-ring is a 14-ring.
The McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour is a true archery festival with over 40 of the top archery and outdoor manufacturers showing the newest and latest products, a special archery program with activities for the whole family, and many archery challenges. In addition to the two days of competition featuring McKenzie 3-D targets, other activities include Delta Target bales for warm-up, the Realtree practice range, the Zebra Twist Team Shoot, the LimbSaver Known Distance Shoot, the Delta Field Target Speed Shoot, and the opportunity to meet, watch, and learn from great professional archers.
This event offers everyone the chance to experience the fun of the ASA Pro/Am Tour with competition ranges that are specifically designed to be spectator friendly, and competition classes that allow everyone from age six-to-sixty plus compete. In addition to providing world class competition, this ASA Pro/Am tour will bring into the Gainesville area an economic impact of over $500,000 as this event attracts thousands of archers, sponsors, family members and spectators. Funding for the ASA Pro/Am Gainesville Tour stop is provided by a grant provided through Alachua County tourist tax funds and a grant from the Florida Sports Foundation.
