The Gainesville Sports Commission has joined the American Cancer Society and the Gainesville Downtown Owners and Tenants to help fight breast cancer. We ask you to join us in this unique addition to the Gainesville Senior Games.

This year we are encouraging participants in the Gainesville Senior Games to put together a team of friends and family and join us in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fund-raising event in Downtown Gainesville on Saturday, October 23, 2010. This is a 5K walk through downtown Gainesville that begins and ends at the steps of the Hippodrome State Theatre. Walk registration is at 7 AM and the walk will take place 9AM until 10:30 PM. We know that many of you will be participating in other Gainesville Senior Games competitions, but if you can work your participation in the walk around your competition schedule we encourage you to do so. Athletes who participate in the Senior Games and register for the Making Strides event before October 15 will be given a special edition Senior Games’ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer T-shirt. This will be fun and will support a great cause that has likely personally affected us all.
